Walked off my shift at the warehouse in Fort Worth after they pulled the 30 minute unpaid lunch on my crew
So this happened last Thursday at the distribution center off Meacham. For 8 hours a day we unload trucks, and our supervisor suddenly announced at the start of shift that the paid 30 minute lunch was now unpaid, effective immediately, no warning and no meeting. I did the math quick and that's about $75 a week out of my check, which is my gas money to get there. I asked him if there was a policy number or anything in writing and he just said "that's how it is now." I finished my shift, clocked out, and did not come back the next day. My buddy on the crew says half of them are still there eating the loss because they can't afford gap in pay, and now I feel like a jerk for walking when they stayed. Was I wrong to leave over what sounds small, or is the principle worth more than the $75? Has anyone left a job over a policy change that looked tiny on paper?
