What finally made you stop waiting for it to get better? I did the same thing you did, stayed 7 months after a pay cut because I kept telling myself it was temporary. Looking back those 7 months cost me way more than the $4 an hour. Here is what I learned: the sign it is time to go is when you stop being mad about it. When you just feel numb walking in, that is your gut already packing its bags. Maria was right, the job quit on her first, she just stopped pretending otherwise. So if you have to ask yourself what you are waiting for, you already know the answer.
