Can we talk about the push for wireless everything?
I was finishing a job in a brick house in Denver last month, and the client insisted on a fully wireless system against my advice. The main panel lost signal for 12 hours straight during a snowstorm, and the cellular backup failed too. Has anyone else had a major failure that made you stick with hardwired for key components?

Man, I was all in on wireless a few years back. A storm like that would totally change my mind though, wouldn't it?

Totally get where you're coming from, @jamiegreen. I had the same exact feeling after a bad ice storm last winter. My whole wireless setup was useless for two days, couldn't even check the weather radar. That kind of thing makes you realize how fragile it all is. I keep a cheap corded phone in a drawer now just in case. It's a real wake up call when you're cut off like that.

Ugh, that's brutal. After a similar mess I always run a hard line for the main panel now, @thea143 has the right idea with a backup. Wireless is fine for sensors, but never for the brain of the system.
