Had a young fan at a convention tell me my Sailor Moon cosplay was 'old school'

She was maybe 12 and said she loved how I did the wig because it looked like the original 90s style. It made me think about how the fandom passes down knowledge from one generation to the next.

Honestly, when you said she loved the "original 90s style," I see that a little differently. Ngl, I don't think it's just about passing down knowledge, it's kinda weird how kids these days act like the 90s is some ancient artifact. Tbh, I was at a con recently and a teenager called my cosplay "vintage" and I felt like I had one foot in the grave. Like, yeah, we were there when Sailor Moon first aired, but that doesn't turn us into museum pieces. I get that she meant it as a compliment, but it stings a bit when something from your own childhood gets treated like it's ancient history. It just feels like there's this gap where they don't see us as part of the same fandom, just old people who used to like it.
