Watched 12 episodes of One Piece last week and finally got why people love it

I put off watching this show for like 3 years cause I thought the hype was overblown. Last Tuesday I sat down and binged through the Arlong Park arc and actually teared up at the end lol. Does it take everyone that long to get hooked or was I just stubborn?

Honestly took me about 15 episodes before I really got what people were saying. Arlong Park is where it clicked for me too though, that ending hit way harder than I expected. Ngl most people say it picks up around there or earlier with the Baratie arc. It's not just you being stubborn, the show just has a slow start but once you're in you're in for real.

@rowanc29 you make a solid point about Arlong Park, but I gotta ask - what was it about that ending that finally got you? Was it Nami's backstory, the walk to Arlong Park, or something else? For me it was seeing Luffy just stand there and let her break down, no words needed, just actions. That moment set the tone for the whole series for me. Did you have a similar moment where a character's choice just locked you in, or was it more the overall buildup that sold you?
