Appreciation post: the IT guy who finally showed me why my spreadsheet kept crashing
About a year ago at my old office in Cleveland, I was fighting the same Excel file all day, and it locked up on me four times before lunch. I kept restarting my computer and blaming the network, because that's what everyone did. Then Dave from IT sat with me for 15 minutes and showed me my file had 40,000 rows of formulas pointing at other formulas, which is apparently a disaster. He rebuilt the whole thing as three linked sheets in under an hour, and it never crashed again. I felt like a total idiot. Has anyone else had a file they protected for ages just because they never asked for help?
