Overheard my manager say 'just use ChatGPT' for a client report
I was grabbing coffee by the break room and heard my manager tell a junior guy to just run a report through ChatGPT and polish it up. No fact checking, no sourcing, just AI copy and paste. I took a look at the final version later and it had a stat that was completely made up, like a fake percentage about market trends. Has anyone else seen management push AI shortcuts that end up making more work for everyone else?

Yeah that stat was probably hallucinated. Garbage in, garbage out with these tools.

Used to think the hallucination problem was overblown by people who just didn't know how to prompt right. But then I asked ChatGPT for a 2022 book list and got three titles that were completely made up, one author who didn't even write in that genre. Checked the source it claimed and found nothing. That's not a bad prompt, that's the model just confidently lying. Changed my whole view on how much you can trust these things for anything factual.
