That $60 label maker I bought for inventory was a complete waste of a Tuesday afternoon

I spent 4 hours printing 300 labels for the warehouse bins and realized the thermal printer at the front desk could do the same thing in 10 minutes, so has anyone else bought fancy gear without checking what the office already owns first?

...meanwhile I've got a drawer full of label makers from three different jobs over the years, and every single one was bought because the last one died or got lost in a move. The kicker is my current boss still uses a Sharpie and masking tape for half the bins because he says labels peel off anyway. I spent a whole weekend color coding the entire supply closet with one of those things, only to find out the shipping guy had been using a free app on his phone that prints QR codes straight onto boxes. Tuesday afternoon wasted is one thing, but I lost a whole weekend to a label maker that now just sits there holding dust on a shelf next to the three hole punch nobody uses.
