Neighbor knocked on my door at 11pm and asked me to move my couch off the shared wall

I had my couch pushed up against the bedroom wall for 8 months because the living room layout only works one way. He knocked at 11pm, not mad, just said he could hear my TV through the wall every night and asked if I could try moving it 3 inches off. I slid it over and put a $12 pack of felt pads under the legs and he hasn't knocked since. I felt dumb for not thinking of it sooner because I was the one causing the noise the whole time. What else do people put on walls to kill sound without hanging ugly panels?
