The $8 Command hook that saved my ceiling from a $300 deposit hit

I hung a heavy plant basket from a ceiling hook last month in my Portland studio and woke up to a cracked paint bubble forming around the anchor point. Took it down, filled the hole with toothpaste (yes, actually), and covered it with a peel-and-stick ceiling medallion that cost $8 on sale. Has anyone else used that fake-tile trick to hide ceiling damage, or am I just delaying the inevitable walkthrough nightmare?

Renters have been doing this dance since duct tape was invented. My buddy patched a hole with a white sticker from a binder label and painted over it with nail polish, passed inspection for two years. It's all about knowing what the landlord actually checks, most of them glance at the floor and call it done. You bought yourself time, just keep the medallion in case they ask questions later.
