Wasted $150 on those soundproof foam panels

I spent $150 on those foam egg crate panels off Amazon thinking they'd fix my neighbor's TV noise through the wall... did absolutely nothing. The thin walls in my complex just let the bass right through. I should've saved up for mass loaded vinyl or even just hung heavier curtains. Three months later I had to throw them out. Anyone actually found a cheap way to block bass noise in apartments?

Same thing happened to me man. Those foam panels are junk for bass because they just soak up high frequencies. Tried putting a thick rug on the wall and it worked a little better for the midrange but not that deep bass. What actually helped a bit was shoving a heavy bookcase against the shared wall and filling it with stuff. Not perfect but better than wasting money on those foam things again.

Had the bookcase trick work? Like did it stop the thumping or just make it less annoying?
