A customer talked me out of a part swap, she had a point

Last Thursday I was about to swap a 5 year old dryer thermistor on an older Whirlpool, and the homeowner (who used to be an electrician) said to check the vent path first, which I almost never do for a simple error code. She was right, the exhaust was packed with lint and the thermistor was fine, and I only charged her for the cleaning instead of a $60 part. Has anyone else had a homeowner talk them out of a standard fix that turned out to be the right call?

You get paid for the part, not the advice, easy money left on the table.
