Hot take: I fixed a dryer by telling the owner to use it less

Had a customer who kept calling about their dryer overheating. Instead of selling them a new heating element, I asked about their habits. Turns out, they were running huge loads back to back without letting it cool down. I told them to space out loads and clean the lint trap every time. It worked perfectly after that. Maybe we focus too much on parts and not enough on how people use their stuff.

So does that work for other stuff like fridges or dishwashers?

Actually seems like a different thing since those are always plugged in... printers can sit unused for weeks which causes its own problems.

Totally get that focus on how people use things. I had a printer that kept jamming until I realized the paper was stored in a damp closet.
