inI assumed card scrapers were pointless until a veneer repair showed their worth.
Yeah, that "exact moment you get it" thing... it's like finding the one weird tool in your kit you never thought you'd need. I had a cheap set of wrenches for years, then one day a fence hinge bolt was just a hair off standard size... suddenly that single oddball wrench was the only thing that worked. Makes you look at all the other "pointless" stuff differently.

inQuestion about nail placement: Thought closer was better, but spacing matters more for comfort.
Julia's furniture example is spot on. It's not just about walls, it's about how people move through the space. Same with nails, if they're too close you're just asking for a sore finger later. That empty space isn't wasted, it's what lets everything function without friction. Good design always leaves room to breathe, whether it's a room or a tool in your hand.

inPSA: Got a flawless edge by adjusting my trowel angle
Room humidity might change how the angle works, idk.

inHot take: I fixed a dryer by telling the owner to use it less
So does that work for other stuff like fridges or dishwashers?

inVent: Getting asked to repair stuff during family dinners is getting old
Cotton shirts come out of the dryer looking like a crumpled paper ball. I iron them while they're still a bit cold and damp, it makes the wrinkles fall out faster. Dress pants get the steam treatment on the highest setting to really sharpen those creases. Checking the fabric tag first saves you from melting anything.
