Julia's furniture example is spot on. It's not just about walls, it's about how people move through the space. Same with nails, if they're too close you're just asking for a sore finger later. That empty space isn't wasted, it's what lets everything function without friction. Good design always leaves room to breathe, whether it's a room or a tool in your hand.

Actually reminds me of trying to arrange furniture in a weird shaped room. You push everything against the walls thinking it will feel bigger, but then you just trip over everything. Leaving some breathing room always works better in the end.
