Opted for the cheap motor coupler first, paid for it later

Last month a Whirlpool washer came in with that grinding noise, no spin. I was torn between ordering the OEM coupler kit for $38 or grabbing the $12 generic from the local parts house. I picked the cheap one to get the job done that same day, customer was in a hurry. It lasted maybe 14 loads before it shredded, and I had to go back out on my own time. Second trip I put in the OEM part and it's been quiet for 3 weeks. Anyone else ever gamble on the cheaper part to save a same-day turnaround, or do you always wait for the real deal?
