Yeah, that's a solid move. I still do the same thing with a stethoscope on a motor, you can hear a bearing starting to go long before the vibration sensors trip.

Oh man, that "three day fight" line hits home. I've been there with that old black mastic, it's like fighting tar. The heat gun and scraper method is brutal, just hours of slow, hot, dusty work. I found using a rented floor scraper with a sharp blade made a huge difference on the last bit I did. Still a horrible job, but it cuts the time down a lot. Solidarity, that stuff is the worst.

What's the worst thing you ever lost on a sticky note? I once lost a phone number for a huge client and had to call the main line like a total stranger. That's when I finally gave up on paper too.
