Rebuilt my own carb on my 92 Ranger instead of buying a reman, and I'd do it again
Shop wanted $340 for a reman and a core charge on top. I got the kit for $28 shipped from a place in Ohio and spent a Saturday on it in my garage with a bucket of carb cleaner and a screwdriver set.
Got it back on and it fired up on the third crank. Took me two more tries to get the idle screw dialed in right, but it's been running clean for eight weeks now. The old float was full of varnish so no wonder it was flooding.
I get why shops push remans, time is money. But for a guy who wants to learn his own machine, a kit and a weekend is the way. Who else here rebuilds instead of replacing, and what was the first one you did?
