The ground wire I skipped for 8 years finally bit me in Tulsa

Last Tuesday I got called back to a customer's house because their new fridge kept shocking them when they touched the handle. I checked everything, compressor, relay, control board, and then I noticed I never attached the ground strap on the unit I installed back in 2017. All those years I figured the cord's ground was enough, but the vibration from the compressor had worn through a wire and let voltage leak to the frame. The customer got zapped twice before calling me, felt awful about that. Anyone else ever skip a ground connection and regret it later, or is it just me being too confident in the factory setup?

That one story changed my mind, grounding is never optional no matter how solid the factory setup looks.
