Had a customer yesterday tell me I was 'murdering' her 80 year old oak tree

I was just doing a deadwood prune and thinning the canopy, but she saw me cutting a 3 inch limb and got real upset. I had to stop and explain how proper pruning actually extends a tree's life... anyone else had to talk a homeowner down from a panic like that?

Bet people forget trees have been managing their own deadwood for millions of years without us. That little limb ain't gonna kill it, it's the lack of pruning that causes bigger problems later. Sounds like you handled it right by just stopping and explaining.
