Had to pick between a bucket truck and climbing gear for a backyard job in Denver
Last week I had this tight backyard access job with a huge old oak that needed a major reduction. I went with climbing gear instead of bringing in the bucket truck, saved the homeowner $200 on the quote but my legs are still sore from the spikes. Anyone else ever regret going the cheap route on a job setup?

Man I did the exact same thing last spring in Boulder with this gnarly cottonwood that was basically touching the house. Saved like $150 on the quote but spent the next three days walking like I just got off a horse after being in those spurs for six hours. My buddy still gives me crap about it saying I shoulda just rented the bucket for the day but honestly the homeowner was super happy and tipped me with a case of Coors so maybe it worked out. Still though every time I look at my old spikes I think twice before grabbing them over the truck.

That story about walking like you got off a horse is EXACTLY what kept me from trying spikes on my last oak job. How long did the soreness actually last before your legs felt normal again?
