PSA: Cleaning the garage turned up my first set of climbing spurs from the 90s.
They feel so heavy and crude compared to the lightweight gear we use now. It got me thinking about how safety standards and gear have really improved over the years. What old tool or method do you remember using that seems crazy by today's standards?

Those old spurs sound like medieval torture devices next to modern gear. We just used whatever heavy metal was around back then without a second thought. My first harness was basically some rope tied in a knot around my waist. It's wild that people did serious climbs with such crude tools. Safety improvements really came from learning the hard way. What outdated piece of equipment makes you cringe now?
