Spent 4 hours trying to chip a stump with a dull chain yesterday

I had this big elm stump in a backyard in Denver that I figured would take maybe 30 minutes to grind down. Turns out my chain was so dull it was practically bouncing off the wood. I ended up driving to Ace Hardware to get a new chain and finished the job in 20 minutes flat. Has anyone else dealt with a hidden rock that wrecks your chain mid-job?

Man, I remember reading a post somewhere about a guy who hit a chunk of rebar with his chainsaw and the chain just grenaded. That hidden rock thing is brutal, always shows up when you least expect it. At least you got it sorted with a fresh chain, beats wrestling with a dull one for hours.

Dude yes. Hit a chunk of concrete once with my saw. Felt like the whole world stopped.
