The $15 pruning saw that finally made sense to me after 12 years
I always fought with branch collars on thick oaks, cutting flush like my old foreman taught me, until I grabbed a cheap curved saw from the hardware store in Nashville and accidently sliced at an angle. Now I leave a proper collar and the wounds heal way faster, has anyone else ditched the flush cut habit?

Ditch the flush cut for good. It took me one bad cut on a maple to learn that lesson, and my foreman was dead wrong about the old way. Leaving that collar lets the tree seal itself up instead of leaving a big open wound for rot to find. I have seen way less dieback on the stuff I have pruned since I switched. That little curved blade changed everything for me, and I will never look back.
