The 78 year old who taught me to prune a maple by watching it for 20 minutes first
Last Tuesday at a job in Bend, an old timer named Walt made me stand under a client's dying maple for a full 20 minutes in silence before I touched a single branch, and when I finally asked what we were waiting for he just said "the tree will show you where the dead wood is if you stop rushing it, kid," which is the first time in 12 years anyone has actually made me slow down on a prune.
