Found my first whole point in the field last Friday after 3 trips to the same creek bed in central Texas
I used to just pick up whatever looked cool and toss it in a bag with zero notes, which meant half my collection was basically useless once I got home. Now I take a photo of the spot before I move anything, write the GPS number on a ziplock, and log it in a notebook that night. Last Friday that habit paid off when I pulled a complete Perdiz point out of a gravel bar near Lampasas, and I actually know exactly where it sat in the stratigraphy. My old self would have just pocketed it and forgotten the spot by Tuesday. Anybody else have a system that keeps your finds from turning into mystery rocks on a shelf?
How many of those mystery rocks do you figure are just driveway gravel at this point? I've got a whole jar of "arrowheads" from my first year that I'm pretty sure are just cool looking chert. Your ziplock and notebook thing sounds smart though, I keep telling myself I'll start doing that and then I just pocket stuff like a raccoon.
