My metal detector found a weird lump in a field near Santa Fe

I was scanning an empty field where an old trading post was supposed to be, and my Garrett Ace 300 beeped on something about eight inches down. I dug it up expecting a coin or a button, but it was just a solid, rusted lump of iron about the size of my fist. I cleaned it off and realized it was probably just a piece of a broken plow blade from a hundred years later than I was looking for. Has anyone else gotten super excited by a signal that turned out to be total farm junk?

Oh man, that "rusted lump of iron" feeling is the worst. I spent a whole afternoon once digging up what turned out to be a buried tractor weight. The signal was perfect.

Remember my perfect signal on a buried manhole cover.

Ugh, tell me about it! I've got a whole bucket of those "mystery" lumps that turned out to be just old nails and bolts.
