You think that's wild, @bethwhite? It's the most likely answer. Old construction crews just paved over anything in their way. They did not care. That parking lot is probably a time capsule of shortcuts. The real shock is when they find it, not that it was there.

Maybe it's not that deep. Could've been a ditch they filled in years ago. Just looks worse than it is.
