The mechanic who told me to check the gas cap first was right

My check engine light came on last Tuesday on I-90 near Bellevue. I was about to drop $180 at a shop to get it diagnosed. My buddy Mike who works at a Pep Boys just said 'check the gas cap first, it's always the gas cap.' Sure enough it was loose. Clicked it twice and the light went off by Friday. Felt dumb but saved the money. Has anyone else had a simple fix like that that made you question all the money you've spent at repair shops?

Same thing happened with my dryer, it was just the lint trap. Felt like a genius.
