Pro tip: Waiting for the moon to leave made my star pics way better
I mean, I used to snap astronomy photos as soon as it got dark and wonder why they looked kinda hazy. But idk, maybe it's just me, but I found that waiting for the moon to set completely changed things. One time, I stayed up until 3 AM to catch the Milky Way, and the difference was huge. The sky got way darker, and the stars came out crisp without that bright moon glow. Now, I always check when the moon will dip below the horizon before I go out. It takes forever sometimes, like hours of just sitting there, but it's so worth it. Just a little patience tip that really helped my shots.

3 AM is a long time to stay up. How do you check when the moon will set? I mean, is there a specific app you rely on, or do you just look it up online?

I keep an old paper chart from a nautical almanac in my junk drawer. There's something about the creases and pencil marks that feels more real than a screen.

Ever tried to ask your smart speaker about moon set times at 2 in the morning and just gotten a confused bloop sound back? I usually just google "moon set time" and my city, lilyh54, and hope I remember to check the right date. My method mostly involves squinting at my phone screen while my brain is half asleep. Honestly, sometimes I just give up and go to bed, figuring the moon will do its thing without me.
