Showerthought: my uncle pointed his cheap 6 inch Dob at the moon and I finally got why people photograph it
Ngl I always thought moon photos were boring, just the same gray circle over and over. Then my uncle set up his little 6 inch Dob in his driveway in Reno a couple weekends back and had me look through the eyepiece instead of at his phone screen. He said the trick is catching the terminator, that line where light meets shadow, because that is where every crater edge throws a shadow and the whole thing looks 3D. I tried shooting it handheld with my phone pressed to the eyepiece and got nothing but a bright blob until he showed me how to lock exposure way down. Do you all stack a bunch of frames or just take one shot when the seeing is steady?
