Heard a guy at the paint supply store swear by wax and grease remover before sanding

I always just wiped down panels with mineral spirits before sanding, but this guy said he uses a dedicated wax and grease remover from PPG. Tried it on a greasy door jamb last week and the primer stuck way better. Anyone else notice a difference with the specialty stuff?

Honestly I had the exact same experience. I used to think mineral spirits were good enough until a buddy convinced me to try the dedicated stuff and it's night and day on greasy areas. Tbh I think the specialty removers just cut through the contaminates better and give the primer something real to bite into.

The PPG stuff is supposed to be a different chemical makeup than regular mineral spirits. I remember reading some technical bulletin that said mineral spirits can just spread the wax around instead of actually lifting it off. That door jamb situation is exactly where the specialty stuff shines, like around door handles where people's hands leave all that oily residue. Now I keep a can of the spray version in the truck for those nasty spots.
