Bought a $200 induction heater for rusty bolts vs keeping the torch, and the torch is sitting in my bottom drawer now
After fighting a seized exhaust manifold bolt on a 2011 F-150 for 45 minutes with MAP gas, I grabbed the induction heater and had it glowing in 30 seconds, so now I'm wondering what other jobs I've been making harder on myself out of habit.
A buddy of mine swore by his torch for every stuck nut on his old Tacoma until he burned through a brake line and almost torched the whole truck. He finally picked up an induction tool last winter and now he won't shut up about it. The thing that sold him was doing ball joints, no open flame near the fuel tank or the wiring harness. He told me the heat stays right where you point it instead of cooking everything around it. Now he uses it on everything from tie rod ends to exhaust studs, even uses it to loosen red locktite when he does not want the torch out. Funny how we stick with old habits until something shows us a better way.
