Finally got a customer to understand why you can't just top off their transmission fluid after a 90k mile flush.
I explained that the old fluid had worn-out friction modifiers (which is why the pan magnet looked like a fuzzy caterpillar) and adding new fluid to that sludge would just make the new stuff fail faster, so has anyone else found a good way to explain this without sounding like you're just upselling?

Man, that fuzzy caterpillar magnet is the perfect way to put it... had a guy last week who just could not get why his slipping wouldn't stop after we added two quarts. Had to show him the glittery soup in the old pan and explain it's like putting fresh oil into a deep fryer full of burnt gunk, just ruins the new stuff right away. Sometimes you just need the right gross visual for it to click.
