That self-test button was lying to me for 4 years at PDX

I used to run the manual self-test on every pitot-static system before sign-off and call it good. Turns out that button only checks the display and the data bus, not the actual transducers or leaks. A regional carrier rejected my paperwork on a 737 last November, and when I asked their lead inspector, he said the real check is a full leak test with a test set, not the panel self-test. I felt like an idiot because I'd been relying on that button since I started at PDX in 2020. Now I hook up the DSA test set every time, and it caught a bad static line I would have completely missed. Has anyone else had a shop culture that treats the self-test as a substitute for the real process?
