My mom said she doesn't want to be paid back for the $2,300 she lent me, and now I can't stop thinking about it

My car died back in October and my mom covered the $2,300 repair without me even asking. I set up a payment plan to send her $150 a month and she took it for like two months before she sat me down at her kitchen table last Sunday. She said "I don't want your money, I want you to come to dinner on Sundays" and honestly it threw me. I've been viewing this as a debt thing because that's easier for me than admitting I've been avoiding family stuff for a year. Now I owe her nothing on paper but I feel weird about it in a way I can't explain. Has anyone else had a parent refuse repayment and turn it into something else entirely? How do you handle it when the money gets swapped out for time?
