My sister said at Thanksgiving she'd rather pay $200 a month for storage than deal with mom's basement, and I finally said something
This is a small win for me. My sister has been paying $200 a month to store a bunch of old furniture and bins for almost 3 years now, which is like $7,000. At Thanksgiving my mom made some joke about her basement being a free storage unit and my sister snapped back that she would rather pay that money than deal with the mess down there. I just sat there for a second and then I asked if the stuff in storage was even worth $7,000 to her. She got quiet. Then she goes "I don't even know what's in half those bins." So I offered to help her go through it in January, no pressure, just one Saturday. She actually said yes. For anyone who has done this, how did you split up the keep, donate, toss piles without it turning into a fight about old baby stuff? I need a system before I walk into that basement.
