Why does everyone forget to talk about the 'one bill' rule with aging parents?
My mom hit 72 and suddenly her credit card was a mess. She kept telling me she was fine, so I didn't push. Then a $380 late fee showed up on a utility bill she swore she paid. I spent 3 weeks calling three different companies, trying to untangle autopay and paper statements that went to her old address. What finally worked was setting up a shared spreadsheet where every bill has a due date and a checkmark. It sounds dumb, but it took me 6 months to realize the real issue was she was embarrassed to ask for help, not that she couldn't manage. Has anyone else found a system that doesn't make your parent feel like you're taking over their life?
