A ranger at Zion told me my route plan was garbage and it fixed my whole approach
Two springs back I mapped out a 4 day trip through the Narrows and had it all laid out in miles per day. A backcountry ranger at the visitor center looked at my sheet and said I was planning mileage instead of water and daylight. Now I plan around where the reliable sources are and how many hours of light I actually get, and my days come out shorter but way less miserable. Anyone else had a ranger or trail worker hand them a reality check that stuck?
