Hot take: people plan the PCT on blogs and ignore the snow data, and it burned me last June
Everyone kept telling me to start Kennedy Meadows around June 10 because that is when the herd goes, so I did, and I spent four days postholing through slush up to my thighs near Forester Pass. What nobody mentions is checking the actual snowpack numbers from that year, because 2023 was a 200 percent year and the blogs I read were written in 2019. Watch the Sierra snow sensor data before you lock in your start date, not somebody's itinerary from four seasons ago. Did anyone else get wrecked by old trail beta out there?
