Lots of folks use GPS on backpacking trips. Mine quit, so I looked at the map's squiggly lines to find a way.

GPS can get you lost in a new city when it doesn't know about a closed road, but a paper map gives you the whole picture so you can figure it out. Rivere83 has a point about maps never failing, because they don't rely on a signal or run out of battery. Ever tried following a GPS down a "road" that turned into a hiking trail? A map shows you that stuff ahead of time. Sometimes the old way is just more reliable.
