Question about dropping a route after a silly campsite debate

I was dead set on the lake loop until some guys spent an hour arguing about the best way to filter water, which somehow made the forest trail sound way more peaceful.

Overheard two guys at the trailhead last year arguing if bear spray expires. Made me just turn around and go home for a quiet beer instead. Some debates just suck the fun right out of everything.

Last fall at the Grand Canyon trailhead, I listened to a couple argue for twenty minutes about the best water filter brand. It completely killed my excitement for the hike before I even took a step. I ended up skipping the walk and just found a quiet spot to watch the sunset instead. Those little conflicts can really drain the joy out of a day outdoors. Now I make a point to tune out gear debates and just enjoy the trail.

Totally get it, I once changed my whole hike because I overheard a debate on granola bar flavors. @thea_webb79 has the right idea, sometimes a quiet beer beats listening to that stuff.
