My 12x16 deck finally stopped squeaking after I swapped the screws

Pulled the old 3 inch deck screws and put in 2.5 inch ones with a wider head at every joist, and the squeak I'd been living with for 14 months was gone in an afternoon. Turns out the originals were pulling loose from all the wet season flex, has anyone else had screws back out like that?
