My deck ledger board was lag bolted into nothing for 8 years
Pulled off the siding last month to replace a rotted rim joist and found the previous owner had just screwed the ledger straight into the house wrap. No flashing, no structural screws, nothing behind it but air and a few studs. The deck never moved because it was only 4 feet off the ground and mostly holding a grill. I checked all 12 bolts, 10 of them were barely catching the sheathing. Spent 2 weekends fixing it with proper lag screws and flashing. Has anyone else bought a house and found something like this hidden in a build? How bad was yours?
