That one neighbor who criticized my retaining wall build
Last summer I was building a small retaining wall along my driveway in Cleveland, using some old limestone blocks I got for free on Facebook Marketplace. My across the street neighbor, a quiet older guy named Frank, walked over and just watched me for like 10 minutes without saying anything. Finally he pointed at the first row and said "you need to dig a trench and put gravel down first, or that wall will be gone by spring." I was pretty annoyed because I thought I had it figured out from watching YouTube videos. But he was right - I had skipped the base prep because I was impatient. He ended up helping me for three hours, showing me how to level each block properly. That wall is still standing strong, and now I always ask around before I start any backyard project. Anybody else have a neighbor who saved them from a major mistake?

My uncle Frank in Parma completely rebuilt my deck after I used the wrong screws.
