Unpopular opinion: my gravel patio pad is beating my poured slab, and I'm in Ohio
Two summers back I poured a 10x12 slab for the fire pit and it cracked along the edge by spring, but the 4 inches of compacted #57 gravel I laid last weekend in the same spot cost me $140 and drains like a champ, so is it worth ditching concrete for good or am I just asking for weeds to win by August?
Tried the same thing in my yard and the gravel has held up way better than I expected through two winters. Keep it packed and put down a good weed barrier fabric under it, and you should be fine by August. Concrete looks nice but that cracking just keeps coming back no matter what you do.
