Overheard my neighbor say she feeds her chickens nothing but layer pellets and got me thinking

So I was at the feed store in Salem last Tuesday and this lady was telling the clerk she only gives her hens layer pellets, nothing else. No scraps, no scratch grains, no oyster shells on the side. I wanted to say something but kept my mouth shut. My own flock gets a mix of pellets, kitchen veggie scraps, and free range time, and they seem way healthier. Has anyone else tried just pellets and seen good results or am I right to be skeptical?

My chickens would riot if I tried that, they're basically feathered garbage disposals.

That's so true about chickens, @shane_martinez44. My neighbor's flock once went crazy over a dropped pizza crust, like a full-on feathery stampede. It made me realize they're basically tiny dinosaurs with zero chill. They'll eat anything that doesn't eat them first. Kind of makes you respect the simple life, you know? Just scratching in the dirt and losing your mind over leftover pasta.
