Swapped from wood shavings to straw bedding and my coop smells way better

I used pine shavings for two years in my 6-hen coop in Ohio and couldn't kick the ammonia smell no matter how often I cleaned. Switched to straw bales from Tractor Supply about three months ago and the difference is night and day less moisture buildup and easier to spot clean. Anybody else tried switching beddings and found one that really works better?

Three bales in and my coop smells like a wet barn that hasn't been mucked out since last spring. I tried straw a couple years back and the mold problem was unreal in my humid climate, plus the mice loved tunneling through it. Had to tear out the whole floor after one winter. @richardh44 I get that people get stuck in routines, but sometimes the standard way works for a reason. Pine shavings with a good deep clean routine and a scoop of stall refresher has kept my 8 hens dry and the ammonia down for five years straight. Straw just holds moisture against the ground too long.

People get stuck in one way of doing things when a simple switch fixes everything.
