The garage fridge egg test that fixed my hatch rate

I kept losing chicks around day 18 and couldn't figure out why. My incubator temp was stable, humidity looked fine on the gauge, but still about half the eggs would go bad. Turns out my cheap hydrometer was reading 10 percent off. I borrowed a decent one from a buddy in Toledo and re-calibrated everything. After that, 14 of 16 eggs hatched last month. Has anyone else had a runaway humidity problem with a budget gauge?
