Fix for my dryer was just cleaning the vent after 3 years of thinking it was broken

That's a really good point @laurar38 because honestly most people don't think to ask for a quick lesson while the tech is right there. My last repair guy spent like 10 minutes showing me the exact spots in my dryer vent that always clog up and how to safely reach them with a cheap brush. Saved me a hundred bucks easy the next time it started acting up. Plus he showed me the lint trap seal was getting worn out, which I never would have noticed. Small things like that make a huge difference over time.

Switched from a monthly budget to a cash envelope system and saved $400

Can't believe you walked three miles with a gas can, that's insane.

Remember when everyone said electric cars were just a rich person's toy?

People keep telling me their power bills went down after switching to a heat pump or induction, but I haven't seen anyone post the actual numbers. My buddy got a heat pump dryer and his electric bill jumped $40 a month, so your mileage may really vary depending on your house and local rates. Also worth noting that "after rebates" usually means you're still dropping a few grand upfront, and not everyone has that cash sitting around. I'm not saying it's all hype, just that a few good stories don't mean every installation goes that smoothly. Take those savings claims with a big grain of salt until you've crunched your own numbers.

Swinging vs walking the riverbank: which is better for spotting ledges?

You bet, walking the bank slow saved my bacon on a tight spot last fall.

I just found out my bread dough was too cold to rise right

a few degrees changes the whole flavor" - totally. I had a similar thing happen with my pizza dough. I was making it in the winter and couldn't figure out why it was always so sticky and hard to stretch. Finally realized my countertop was like 60 degrees and the dough was basically freezing. I started microwaving a cup of water for a minute and putting it in the oven with the dough, same trick as you. Night and day difference. Now I'm obsessive about checking the temp of everything, even the water I use to feed my starter. It's like the whole process is one big math problem that nobody warns you about.
